We're in Albuquerque

We're here in Albuquerque after an, um, exciting trip over the high plains and mountains between Amarillo and Albuquerque. The temperature varied from 20-27° until we descended into the city, at which time we were shocked at how warm 33° felt.

The view when we finally left Amarillo:

Entering New Mexico:

We met this family at a tiny gas station, they were enroute to South America.

The view out the window at Cline's Corners, where we stopped to warm our toes 60 miles east of Albuquerque. We wish we'd taken photos of the outside/front of the store, too. Cline's is on a high plateau, elevation over 7000'.

The Route 66 sign inside Cline's; I-40 parallels much of historic Route 66.

After Cline's, we had 60 miles of at times snow-covered roads, lots of semis, icy bridges, and a very steep descent through mountains as night fell, to contend with before we reached Albuquerque, taking us about two hours. Even our suits were iced over when we arrived.

As we approached the city, we saw passengers in at least two vehicles (one a passing 8-wheeler!) leaned out of open windows to take photos of us. Maybe we'll turn up on some internet forum somewhere.

So glad you are okay. Temp in L-ville went down dramatically, and we were wondering how you would do in the passes. Glad you made it. Make sure you get some good southwestern food. I'd suggest the breakfast eggs with Green chile sauce. Excellent.

Watch the gas, and take care!!!

btw, heading home on Saturday!

Well it sounds like the traveling penguins was the perfect name. Maybe y'all should find a hot tub and wait for the weather to change. Please be careful and we will stay tuned.
We are driving back from Indy on Sat.

Take care and be safe.

Hi guys! Sounds like a hair-raising trip in the snow and ice! I hope your toes are thawed out by now and the roads are clear. Southern California will feel pretty good, I think. We're back from L'ville and waiting for the rain to fall. I'll go check on your kitties today and give you a report. Love, Ma

Hi again penguins. Your kittehs are all fine and dandy. I actually saw all 5 of them, even Zilly. Anyway, they had plenty of food, I gave them fresh water, cleaned all litter boxes. I was surprised at how friendly they all were, maybe they were bored. I'll check them again mid-week and give you a report. Looking forward to the next installment of your journey, too! Love, Ma
