9/11, after arrival in Lewisporte we haded towards L'Anse Aux Meadows

Leaving Lewisporte, we took Canadian hwy 1 west to Deer lake, then turned north, went through Gros Morne, and made it up to L'Anse aux Meadows about an hour after dark. The northern peninsula of Newfoundland was very windy for us, at time blowing us well across our lane. It was clear and sunny most of the way, then about an hour before dark we hit a few showers and had to don our rainsuits for the first time since Labrador City.

Hwy 1 across the interior is pretty boring.

Gros Morne is pretty spectacular, even when you're just passing through:

It was pretty going up the coast, but increasingly stark and remote... gas stations get few and far between in areas.

A tip for those traveling to Newfoundland: do not travel after dark, especially in the northern peninsula. Just as we were starting to question all the tales we'd heard about Newfoundland moose, dark fell and we narrowly avoided smacking into an entire herd of them right on the road. We had two close encounters of the moose kind just in this one evening heading north. These creatures are huge, well-disguised at dusk, and surprisingly fast!
