A pretty day and a relief to get a little paved road in Lab City as we head onto 500 going east...

Better scenery, better road conditions...

Blueberries by the roadside...

We got to Churchill Falls around mid-afternoon. I was really surprised by Churchill Falls, because I expected it to be a big town, but it's really a tiny company town and very isolated.
We were probably 100km/60 mi outside of Goose Bay when the sun began to get low in the sky, and also the road conditions were getting worse with areas of large and deep gravel, stuff we didn't want to fight after dark (not to mention the critters that may come out at night :eek) so we found a camping spot by the roadside, on a little spur of an older road that lay below the level of the current road, right next to a pretty river.

We didn't even unpack, other than to throw the tent up and lay out the sleeping bags. Kristy fell asleep in her clothes right away, while Kenny stayed up awhile to listen to animal sounds and look at the stars. We'd hoped to possibly see northern lights, but no such luck.
