Today we awoke with chuckles about last nights dinner. The event unfolded like this. Kristy and I went to a local restaurant to sample some local food, we both like to sample local food and believe it is at the heart of a community. So here we are in this local restaurant and Kristy chooses a caribou burger and I take the plunge and go for cod tounges, yes I said cod tounges. Kristy did not realize that cods had tongues, after all, what use does a cod have for a tongue? ...I thought they were great, but Kristy did not like their texture. And then there were the bakeapples, which contrary to what you might guess are not apples at all, but white raspberry-like fruit also known as cloudberries.
The next afternoon, it is finally time to board the ferry to Lewisporte in Newfoundland. Once we clear the purser Kristy and I went to the top deck and took in the beautifully rugged scenery. There were scattered showers all around and the sky now was becoming increasingly cloudy. Once under steam we met some great people, Newfies as thbey call themselves are very welcoming and just plain nice people. We were bought dinner by the just retired fire chief of Labrador City and then were bought two drinks by a very friendly (and perhaps slightly inebriated) moose hunter. We've been invited into the homes of more than one virtual stranger, invariably a Newfoundlander, and overall we've found that these small frontier towns have a very different feel and openness than we experienced in, say, Quebec... where we were at one point literally shoed out of a hotel lobby, we believe because we're bikers. It turns out that some in Quebec have a 'thing' against bikers.
Right now we are enjoying a series of impromptu guitar songs courtesy of some of the folks with whom we are sharing the lounge on the ferry. We heard from some other travelers that the Northern lights were out a few nights ago, and if we're very lucky, perhaps the clouds will clear one of these two nights on the ferry and we'll get to see them for ourselves.

It would be amazing if you get to see the Northern Lights. I would be envious. It's good to hear you're having a good time in Canada. By the way, Brad asked about you in the staff meeting and a few people said they were following your blog. Have a good day.
