Leaving L'Anse Aux Meadows, passing through Gros Morne again, then leaving Newfoundland

On 9/13, we reluctantly left Marilyn's Hospitality Home B&B, home of the finest cooking we have yet to taste anywhere in Canada as well as the finest hospitality and excellent company, left L'Anse Aux Meadows and headed south towards Port Aux Basques and the ferry to the US.

IT'S THAT WAY!

Unlike the US, we were able to find gas in Newfoundland, and we met a couple of fellow travelers who had come all the way to Newfoundland from (one of them) San Diego, and (the other) Mexico.

We had another moose encounter...

We took another pass through Gros Marne...

...then we scooted south through increasingly threatening weather...

...and arrived at the port about an hour after dark in heavy rain. We checked in at the port to make our ferry reservation for the next day, and this guy walked up to us and said "you must be those crazy people we passed on the way here!"

On the 14th, we picked up our tickets,

and while waiting for the ferry, we enjoyed the drama playing out behind us. The woman in red you see behind Kristy in this photo was going nuts because the loadmaster wanted their two dogs to remain in the car for the duration (~5 hours) of the trip. She was very loud and very profane, stalking into and out of their camper, and yelling at everyone in a uniform who got within twenty feet of her... and her husband, who reminded me of the Gorton's Fisherman guy, just stayed silent and looked straight ahead. This went on for about 30 minutes.

This ferry was nicer than the Sir Robert Bond; it even has covered lifeboats.

Happy arrival in North Sydney, Nova Scotia:
